Coveted post: Khosa appointed PM’s principal secretary

Party officials said a notification will be issued in the coming days.

Nawaz Sharif has asked former Punjab chief secretary Nasir Mehmood Khosa to assist him as the principal secretary to the prime minister.

Prime minister-in-waiting Nawaz Sharif has asked former Punjab chief secretary Nasir Mehmood Khosa to assist him as the principal secretary to the prime minister, and has requested concerned quarters to issue a notification in this regard, The Express Tribune has learnt.


Party officials said a notification will be issued in the coming days. Khosa, who will retire in four months, will make bureaucratic appointments in the Centre according to his will. Nawaz has also asked Fawad Hassan to assist Khosa in appointing loyal and competent PML-N bureaucrats to important positions in the Centre.


According to sources, Khosa and Fawad were recommended by Shahbaz Sharif for the position. The two will not only report to Nawaz but update Shahbaz as well.

Khosa who belongs to the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) is from the 6th Common Training Program (CTP) and in Grade-22. Between 2010 and 2013, he worked as the Punjab CS. Hailing from Dera Ghazi Khan, he is the brother of former FIA DG Tariq Masood Khosa and Supreme Court judge Justice Asif Saeed Khosa. He is also related to PML-N Senator Sardar Zulfiqar Khan Khosa and former Punjab governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa.

Khosa has also served in various other capacities in Punjab. Prior to his stint as Balochistan chief secretary, Khosa served the province in different capacities between 1979 and 1991. He is also part of the board of directors of the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited. He has a fellowship in public administration from Hubert H Humphrey, USA.
